Foreman, Excavator

About the role

The Foreman, Excavator will lead the maintenance team to ensure high reliability and availability of excavator equipment in a mining environment. You will drive continuous improvement, safety, and efficiency across all mechanical systems.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise planned and breakdown maintenance on all mechanical systems of excavator machines.
• Ensure work order compliance and coordinate parts ordering from the onsite warehouse.
• Promote cooperation between maintenance and mining operations and prioritize workload based on equipment priority and production needs.
• Achieve equipment availability and reliability targets while advising management on safety hazards.
• Read schematics, troubleshoot faults, and conduct routine safety and statutory inspections.
• Coordinate team activities according to the weekly maintenance plan and participate in its formulation.
• Manage rotable parts on the shop floor in liaison with the parts controller.
• Embed a culture of quality repairs, continuous improvement, and safe work practices.
• Monitor equipment condition, manage parts availability reporting, and identify improvement opportunities.

Required profile

• Grade Twelve (12) Certificate.
• Craft or Advanced Certificate in Heavy Equipment Repair or equivalent.
• Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
• Valid Class C driver’s licence.
• Minimum 4 years’ proven experience on Liebherr and Hitachi excavators.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• All qualifications must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).

Required skills

• Heavy equipment repair and excavator maintenance (Liebherr, Hitachi).
• Reading schematics and troubleshooting equipment faults.
• Microsoft Excel proficiency.
• Experience with PRONTO maintenance software.
• Rotable management and parts availability management.
• Conducting safety and statutory inspections.
