Artisan Electrician – Air Conditioning

About the role

The Artisan Electrician (Air Conditioning) will ensure safe execution of all environmental and equipment maintenance tasks within the Smelter Plant. This position focuses on installing, testing, and maintaining HVAC and pressurization/filtration systems while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble, install, test, and maintain heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning (HVAC) equipment and pressurization/filtration units.
• Diagnose and repair malfunctioning systems using test equipment and hand tools.
• Connect wiring to circuit breakers, control transformers, and related components.
• Inspect systems for hazards, defects, and compliance with codes.
• Test continuity of circuits with ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes.
• Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures according to specifications and local codes.
• Provide on‑site training and supervision to workers, especially Zambian employees.
• Maintain a current ACU Technician’s license and comply with all health, safety, environment, and quality regulations.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade Ten (Grade 12) education.
• Craft Certificate in HVAC/RAC certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience as a qualified electrician in HVAC environments.

Required skills

• HVAC/RAC installation and maintenance.
• Electrical wiring, circuit breaker and transformer connections.
• Use of test equipment: ohmmeter, voltmeter, oscilloscope.
• Reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics.
• Installation and servicing of pressurization and filtration units.
