Field Technician – Water Management

About the role

First Quantum is seeking a Field Technician to support hydrogeological and hydrological activities across its operations. The role combines on‑site water monitoring with data‑driven analysis to help maintain accurate water balances and improve water‑management processes.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and record groundwater levels, pumping and discharge volumes, surface‑water flows, and storage volumes in dams, ponds and sumps.
• Validate, reconcile and analyse water‑balance data, identifying inconsistencies and gaps.
• Develop and maintain automated spreadsheets, dashboards and basic scripts for data processing and reporting.
• Create structured data‑capture workflows and assist with visualisation tools such as GIS schematics and dashboards.
• Supervise contractors for drilling and installation tasks when required.
• Support related hydrology and civil activities, including storm‑water monitoring, pump‑station checks and pipeline inspections.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Water) or Hydrology/Hydrogeology.
• 0–3 years of experience; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Strong analytical and numerical ability with a proven capacity to work independently and challenge assumptions using data.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to work both in the field and in an office environment.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel for data manipulation and reporting.
• Basic programming knowledge (Python or R).
• Geographic Information System experience (QGIS or similar).
• Experience handling large datasets and data‑validation techniques.
