General Technician – Utility‑Scale Solar PV Plant

About the role

The renewable energy company is looking for General Technicians to support the operation and maintenance of a utility‑scale solar PV plant in Zambia. You will carry out preventive and corrective maintenance, ensure plant availability and performance, and work under the guidance of the site operations team.

Key responsibilities

• Execute preventive maintenance across 66 kV/33 kV substations, inverter stations, string combiner boxes, weather and soil monitoring stations.
• Conduct infrared scans of PV modules, transformers, SCBs and inverters; perform scheduled inspections of substations, control rooms and plant infrastructure.
• Maintain CCTV and security systems, support module washing campaigns and vegetation management.
• Respond to alarms and plant trips, diagnose faults, replace faulty PV modules, cables, connectors, fuses, transformers and switchgear.
• Generate work orders, record activities and corrective actions in the CMMS, maintain stock records and support operational standby duties.
• Enforce HSE compliance, supervise contractors and mentor interns as required.

Required profile

• Diploma or Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• Registration with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) at Technician level or eligibility for immediate registration.
• Minimum 2 years experience in utility‑scale power plant or industrial environment, including LV/MV switching and HV work up to 66 kV.
• Valid Zambian light‑vehicle driver’s licence and Zambian citizenship or right to work.

Required skills

• ERP/CMMS (e.g., IFS) usage.
• Microsoft Office suite.
• Lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO) procedures.
• Handling of HV equipment up to 66 kV and LV/MV switching.
• Reading schematics and single‑line diagrams.
• CCTV and security system maintenance.
• Module washing and vegetation management.
