Senior Safety Officer

About the role

The Senior Safety Officer will join Lumwana Mining Company’s Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) department, reporting to the OH&S Coordinator. The role focuses on maintaining a strong safety presence on‑site, ensuring compliance with international HSE standards and fostering a zero‑harm culture.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in coordinating and implementing LMC’s HSE management system to international standards.
• Provide advice, support and coaching to contractors and employees on health and safety risk management.
• Conduct workplace safety audits and inspections across the mining site.
• Administer safety‑related documentation, records and reporting on incident trends.
• Facilitate incident investigations, risk assessments and safety forums.
• Oversee health‑ and‑safety training and presentations within the area of operation.
• Develop, implement and maintain safe work procedures and promote safety awareness.
• Identify safety issues proactively and propose effective solutions.

Required profile

• Full Grade 12 certificate.
• Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS); NEBOSH certificate is an advantage.
• Minimum 3 years post‑qualification experience, with at least 1 year in a mining or industrial environment.
• Member of the Zambia Occupational Health and Safety Association (ZOHSA).
• Good communication skills in English.
• Clean Class B or C manual driver’s licence.
