Artisan Rigger

About the role

First Quantum is seeking an Artisan Rigger to support workshop, PCR rigging and maintenance activities at the Sentinel mine site. The role focuses on safe and efficient material handling, equipment maintenance and compliance with safety standards while contributing to cost‑saving and productivity initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Assist crane operators in lifting and moving loads, ensuring no damage occurs.
• Manage material movement during lifting operations and take responsibility for safe execution.
• Perform scheduled maintenance and statutory inspections on rigging gear, mobile/overhead cranes, winch ropes and related equipment.
• Support load testing and compliance checks for cranes and lifting equipment.
• Estimate load tonnages and select appropriately rated cranes or equipment before lifts.
• Provide training and development for direct reports, especially Zambian employees.
• Carry out any additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Current compliance with all SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) standards.
• Physical ability to sit, stand, bend, work on feet and lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
• Good vision, hearing and comfort working at heights or on ladders/scaffolding.
• Strong English communication skills.

Required skills

• Rigging equipment inspection and maintenance.
• Assistance with crane operation and set‑up/assembly.
• Load estimation and calculation using solid math skills.
• Compliance testing of lifting equipment.
• Use of safety equipment and adherence to safety procedures.
