Child Protection and Gender Technical Specialist

About the role

The Child Protection and Gender Technical Specialist provides strategic direction, technical leadership and quality assurance for Save the Children Zambia’s child protection and gender equality programming. The role ensures that interventions align with the Country Strategic Plan, Global Breakthroughs for Children and the organisation’s safeguarding policies, while supporting integrated multi‑sectoral approaches across health, education, child rights governance and social protection.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of child protection and gender strategies in line with global and national frameworks.
• Integrate gender‑transformative and child‑sensitive approaches across all programme areas.
• Provide technical input for policy advocacy on child marriage, gender‑based violence and safeguarding.
• Design child protection and gender components for proposals, concept notes and programme plans.
• Ensure programming is evidence‑based, inclusive and responsive to the needs of marginalized children, including street‑connected, child‑headed households and refugee settings.
• Support the rollout of digital case‑management systems and integrated referral pathways.
• Build capacity of staff, partners and community structures on child protection and gender issues.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in child protection, gender equality and safeguarding within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Proven ability to lead strategic planning, programme design and policy advocacy.
• Experience working with vulnerable children, including those in street, child‑headed or refugee situations.
• Strong understanding of integrated multi‑sectoral approaches and evidence‑based programming.
• Excellent communication and mentorship skills to build capacity of diverse stakeholders.
