Commercial Operations Specialist – Shipping & Freight Forwarding

About the role

We are seeking a Commercial & Operations Coordinator with direct experience in the shipping and freight forwarding industry to manage commercial activities and day‑to‑day logistics across Rwanda and Zambia. The role combines customer relationship management with operational oversight of import/export shipments.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end shipping and freight forwarding operations for customers, including import/export coordination and customs clearance.
• Prepare and negotiate freight rates, transportation quotations and service agreements.
• Maintain shipping documentation such as commercial invoices, bills of lading and customs paperwork.
• Coordinate with shipping lines, freight forwarders, clearing agents, transporters and customs authorities.
• Monitor shipment movement, delivery timelines and operational performance, resolving any issues that arise.
• Develop and sustain strong customer relationships, identifying opportunities for new business and revenue growth.
• Prepare operational and commercial reports for management and support process improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of direct experience in shipping or freight forwarding, including hands‑on customs clearance.
• Proven experience handling import/export and international shipments across Africa.
• Strong understanding of shipping documentation, customs procedures and trade regulations.
• Experience negotiating freight/transport rates and preparing commercial quotations.
• Customer relationship management and business development experience is preferred.
• Bachelor’s or Diploma in Shipping, Freight Forwarding, Logistics, Supply Chain or a related discipline.
