Dispatch Manager – Logistics & Transport

About the role

The Dispatch Manager will lead the dispatch area, ensuring efficient handling of containers, client vehicles, and courier deliveries. This role is responsible for maintaining high standards of safety, accuracy, and cost‑effectiveness in all dispatch operations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and assess the Dispatch Team, conducting monthly performance reviews and ad‑hoc appraisals.
• Schedule and run weekly staff meetings and enforce a fair disciplinary code.
• Ensure the dispatch area is adequately staffed and workloads are balanced to meet deadlines.
• Oversee export processes, packing, and transport of goods to prevent damage and ensure timely delivery.
• Plan deliveries using the most economical routes while minimizing fuel costs.
• Manage courier services for non‑export orders and local store deliveries, guaranteeing vehicle maintenance and use of accredited couriers.
• Implement safety training in line with OHS legislation and report all incidents to the risk team.
• Control shrinkage, enforce internal policies, and escalate any identified problems.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 (Matric) qualification; tertiary education is advantageous.
• At least 2 years FMCG/retail experience and 1‑2 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Strong knowledge of liquor policies, administration procedures, and health‑and‑safety legislation.
• Ability to work independently, coach team members, and meet tight deadlines.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency, especially Excel.
• Valid driver’s licence.
