Electrical Technician – Utility‑Scale Solar PV Plant

About the role

The renewable energy company is looking for Electrical Technicians to maintain and optimise a utility‑scale solar PV plant in Zambia. You will carry out preventive and corrective electrical maintenance, ensure HSE compliance and support junior staff and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute preventive maintenance on 66 kV/33 kV substations, inverter stations, string combiner boxes and monitoring systems.
• Conduct infrared scans of PV modules, transformers, SCBs and inverters and perform scheduled inspections.
• Respond to alarms and plant trips, diagnose faults, replace faulty modules, cables, connectors, fuses, transformers, switchgear and control gear.
• Apply root‑cause analysis to recurring issues and prepare technical failure reports.
• Generate work orders in CMMS, maintain spare‑parts records and support plant optimisation projects.
• Enforce HSE procedures, train junior technicians and interns, and oversee contractor compliance.

Required profile

• Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Bachelor’s degree advantageous).
• Registration with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) as Technician or Technologist, or eligibility for immediate registration.
• Minimum 4 years experience in utility‑scale power plant or industrial electrical maintenance.
• Valid Zambian light‑vehicle driver’s licence and Zambian citizenship or right to work in Zambia.

Required skills

• Preventive and corrective maintenance of LV, MV and HV (up to 66 kV) systems.
• Lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO) procedures.
• Infrared scanning of electrical equipment.
• SCADA operation, data analysis and reporting.
• ERP/CMMS usage (e.g., IFS).
• Power system protection knowledge.
• Reading schematics and single‑line diagrams.
