HSSE Specialist

About the role

Puma Energy Zambia is seeking a proactive HSSE Specialist to support implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of health, safety, security, environment and quality management systems across its retail, aviation, transport, terminal, engineering and project operations. Reporting to the Country HSSEQ Manager, the role provides technical and operational support for audits, risk assessments, incident investigations and process‑safety initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Implement, maintain and continuously improve HSSEQ management systems.
• Conduct SAPS audits, security assessments and internal management system audits (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
• Develop and manage risk registers, root risk assessments and risk‑reduction action plans.
• Lead assurance programmes, critical‑control verification and operational compliance reviews.
• Support Process Safety Management implementation across terminals and operational facilities.
• Administer the SpheraCloud Management System, track actions and report performance.
• Manage incident reporting, investigations, root‑cause analysis and corrective‑action processes.
• Oversee contractor HSSEQ compliance, performance reviews and onboarding.
• Provide HSSEQ support for capital projects, engineering works and infrastructure upgrades, including HAZID, HAZOP, MoC and PSSR activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Risk Management or related field.
• Professional HSE qualification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of HSSEQ experience in a high‑risk operational environment.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
• Proven experience in auditing, risk assessment, incident investigation and contractor management.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience using cloud‑based HSSEQ platforms such as SpheraCloud.
• Practical knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
