About the role
The Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Officer will provide technical oversight and operational support for data management, use and reporting within the Better Care for Small and Sick Newborns project in Lusaka, Central and Southern Provinces of Zambia. Working closely with the programme team and partners, the officer will ensure an effective MEAL system that drives evidence‑based decision‑making and improves newborn care.
Key responsibilities
- Design, implement and maintain the project’s monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning framework.
- Collect, validate, analyse and report quantitative and qualitative data from ten district health facilities.
- Support partners in data collection tools, data quality assurance and timely reporting.
- Produce regular performance dashboards, progress reports and learning briefs for internal and donor audiences.
- Facilitate learning workshops, feedback mechanisms and knowledge sharing across the project sites.
- Ensure compliance with Save the Children safeguarding and data protection policies.
Required profile
- Relevant tertiary qualification in public health, statistics, social sciences or related field.
- Minimum 3 years experience in MEAL functions within health or humanitarian programmes.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with government, NGOs and donor partners.
- Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
