Safeguarding Officer

About the role

VisionFund Zambia Limited is seeking a Safeguarding Officer to lead and embed a safeguarding culture across the organization. The role supports senior leadership, develops policies, delivers training, and manages safeguarding incidents in line with global standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support leadership to establish and nurture a safeguarding culture, including contextualising national policies.
• Co‑create and monitor action plans with senior management and branch managers.
• Lead rollout of safeguarding awareness activities and ensure 100% completion of mandatory training.
• Develop and implement a Safeguarding Incident Preparedness Plan, manage incidents, and coordinate investigations.
• Maintain incident reporting systems, ensure survivor‑centred handling, and meet closure targets.
• Collaborate with risk and compliance to conduct safeguarding risk assessments and update the risk register.
• Lead the annual Safeguarding Update Report and contribute to continuous improvement plans.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years experience overseeing PSEA, GBV, or safeguarding work, preferably in a development or micro‑finance context.
• Strong relationship‑building, communication, and influencing skills, with spiritual maturity in the Christian faith.

Required skills

• Direct programming or management experience in prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA), gender‑based violence (GBV) or safeguarding.
• Strong computer and knowledge‑management skills, with the ability to learn new platforms quickly.
