Safety Officer – Fixed Term (LEP)

About the role

The Safety Officer – LEP will support the Senior Safety Officer in maintaining a strong health and safety presence across the Lumwana mining site. This fixed‑term role focuses on implementing the HSE management system, conducting audits, and driving continuous safety improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in coordinating and implementing LMC’s HSE management system to international standards.
• Provide advice, coaching and support to contractors and employees on health and safety risk management.
• Conduct workplace safety audits, inspections and maintain safety‑related documentation.
• Monitor incident trends, prepare reports and ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Lead incident investigations, risk assessments and safety forums.
• Develop, implement and maintain safe work procedures and promote safety awareness.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years construction project experience and at least 3 years post‑qualification experience, with 2 years in mining or industrial settings.
• Full Grade 12 certificate and a Diploma in OHS or equivalent.
• Physically fit, able to pass pre‑employment medical and annual screening.
• Clean Class B or C manual driver’s licence.
• Member of a relevant professional body and strong English communication skills.
• High‑level understanding of Zambian mining safety legislation.

Required skills

• Incident/accident investigation competence.
• Knowledge of safety management systems (ISO, AS, NOSA).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
• Strong report writing and presentation abilities.
• Valid Class B/C manual driver’s licence.
