Technical Specialist – Biodiversity Financing (Team Leader)

About the role

The Technical Specialist in Biodiversity Financing will lead the implementation of the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) in Zambia. Reporting to the regional team, the specialist will guide the development and execution of finance solutions that support the country's biodiversity goals and green finance agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of priority finance solutions identified in Zambia’s Biodiversity Finance Plan.
• Support the development and operationalisation of Zambia’s Green Finance Taxonomy and related reporting frameworks.
• Conduct systematic analysis of biodiversity finance gaps and propose innovative financing mechanisms.
• Collaborate with the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, private sector stakeholders, and development partners.
• Provide technical guidance to national teams and ensure alignment with the Convention on Biological Diversity objectives.

Required profile

• Master’s degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree with at least 7 years of experience.
• Proven experience in biodiversity finance, green finance, or related environmental financing initiatives.
• Strong understanding of international biodiversity conventions and finance mechanisms.
• Fluent English communication skills.

Required skills

• Expertise in biodiversity finance analysis and planning.
• Knowledge of green finance taxonomy development.
• Ability to engage with government, private sector, and multilateral partners.
