Biomedical Equipment Specialist – Zambia

About the role

The Biomedical Equipment Specialist will be embedded within the Zambia National Public Health Reference Laboratory (ZNPHRL) to provide technical support for laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration. The role aligns with U.S. Presidential Executive Order directives and supports the LEAP Global initiative to strengthen infectious disease response capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance (PM) and repair of laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, refrigerators, autoclaves, and air conditioners.
• Support the installation and relocation of new laboratory equipment.
• Verify equipment accuracy and ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
• Maintain a comprehensive, up‑to‑date inventory and history file for all laboratory equipment.
• Execute timely corrective maintenance and repairs as needed.

Required profile

• Experience with maintenance, calibration, and repair of biomedical laboratory equipment.
• Ability to follow technical specifications and industry standards.
• Strong record‑keeping skills for equipment inventory and maintenance history.
• Capacity to work onsite at ZNPHRL and report to both the Laboratory Manager and the U.S. Department of State Health Coordination Office.
