Blast Hole Drill Rig Mechanic – Open Cast Mining

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Blast Hole Drill Rig Mechanic to join our mining operations. You will be responsible for keeping heavy‑duty drilling equipment running safely and efficiently in an open‑cast environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of blast hole drill rigs, rotary drills and DTH equipment.
• Diagnose and fix hydraulic and pneumatic system faults.
• Service diesel engines and associated subsystems.
• Repair electrical and electronic control units and interpret schematics.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and communicate with operators and supervisors.

Required profile

• Recognised Diesel Mechanic or Heavy Equipment Mechanic trade qualification (or equivalent).
• Full Grade 12 or NQF Level 4.
• 3–5 years proven experience with drill rigs in open‑cast mining.
• Valid First Aid certificate and relevant mining safety certifications.
• Valid driver’s licence (Code EB or equivalent) and physical fitness for demanding conditions.

Required skills

• Hydraulic systems maintenance and fault diagnosis.
• Pneumatic systems knowledge.
• Diesel engine repair and servicing.
• Electrical and electronic control system troubleshooting.
• Reading and interpreting hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical schematics.
• OEM certifications (e.g., Sandvik, Epiroc/Atlas Copco, Schramm) – advantageous.
• Hydraulic fitting and auto‑electrical certifications – desirable.
