Business Development Manager

About the role

Uppalcorp is seeking a seasoned Business Development Manager to lead commercial expansion across Zambia’s mining sector. The role focuses on building and deepening relationships with mining companies, suppliers, government bodies, and trade partners throughout the Copperbelt.

Key responsibilities

• Originate and develop new mining and commodity trade relationships across Zambia and the wider Copperbelt.
• Build and maintain senior‑level relationships with mining firms, government ministries, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.
• Identify and assess copper and other metals opportunities, including off‑take, tolling, asset acquisition, and trade‑finance structuring.
• Lead deal origination from first contact through negotiation and close, coordinating with trade‑finance and legal teams.
• Represent Uppalcorp at industry events, mining conferences, and government forums.
• Provide market intelligence on Zambian export duty, royalty, and regulatory developments.
• Negotiate commercial terms, NDAs, and partnership agreements in coordination with internal stakeholders.
• Maintain a robust pipeline and report regularly to executive leadership.

Required profile

• 10–15 years of experience in mining, commodity trading, or business development within the metals & minerals sector.
• Proven track record in Sub‑Saharan Africa, preferably Zambia or the DRC Copperbelt.
• Established network among Zambian mining companies, traders, and government/regulatory stakeholders.
• Demonstrated success originating and closing significant commercial transactions.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building abilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, mining engineering, economics, or related field; advanced degree a plus.
• Willingness to travel extensively across the Copperbelt and internationally.
• Fluency in English; additional regional languages an advantage.
