Conservation Nurse – Nsumbu National Park

About the role

The Nsumbu Tanganyika Conservation Programme is looking for a qualified Nurse to provide primary health care for rangers, staff and their families in the remote setting of Nsumbu National Park, Zambia. The role supports health, safety and operational readiness while shaping the programme’s preventative health and wellness model.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver consultations, diagnosis and treatment for staff, families and female rangers, including maternal and child health services.
• Conduct routine health screenings for malaria, HIV, TB, blood pressure and glucose, and perform periodic health checks for rangers.
• Identify and report disease outbreaks, ensure follow‑up of abnormal results and coordinate referrals to government health facilities.
• Manage medical inventory: store, handle, dispose of medicines safely, monitor stock levels and arrange timely procurement.
• Provide general and advanced first‑aid training to rangers, team medics and first‑aid instructors, run refresher courses and simulations, and keep first‑aid kits fully stocked.
• Perform fitness‑for‑duty assessments, monitor work‑related injuries and illnesses, and support occupational health readiness.

Required profile

• Registered nurse or equivalent qualification.
• Experience delivering primary health care in remote or field settings.
• Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality and collaborate with national health services.
