Firefighter – Emergency Response Team

About the role

The Fireman provides fire‑fighting, rescue and emergency response services at the Kalumbila mine. The role involves protecting life, property and the environment in a physically demanding, 24/7 operational environment.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to structural and wild‑fire incidents, road accidents, floods, bomb threats, hazardous spills and other emergencies on the mine site.
• Rescue trapped personnel and animals, handle venomous snakes and bees, and provide first aid and basic life support.
• Maintain, inspect and test all fire‑fighting and rescue equipment, vehicles and statutory check sheets.
• Participate in training, fire drills and mock scenarios to keep skills current.
• Promote fire safety in the local community through education and outreach.

Required profile

• Grade 12 with credit in English and Mathematics.
• At least 1 year of relevant experience, preferably in mining.
• Class C driver’s licence and clean criminal record.
• Physically fit, disciplined and able to work odd hours.
• Strong communication, decision‑making and problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• Basic Fire Fighter (FF1/FF2) or IFE Level 2 certification.
• Self‑Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) certification.
• Vehicle Extrication certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and first‑aid for mining.
• Rope Rescue/High‑angle rescue (Level 1) and Hazmat awareness training.
