Health and Nutrition Specialist

About the role
The Health and Nutrition Specialist provides technical leadership, quality assurance and strategic oversight for integrated health and nutrition interventions. The role ensures that services are evidence‑based, align with national and international standards, and reach vulnerable groups such as children under five, pregnant and lactating women, adolescents, refugees and host communities.
Key responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight for CMAM/IMAM, MNCH/RMNCH and primary health care programmes, ensuring compliance with national IMAM guidelines, SPHERE standards, DG ECHO requirements and MoH protocols.
- Lead the design, adaptation and contextualisation of protocols, SOPs and integration of nutrition, health, WASH and protection services.
- Supervise implementation at Mantapala Rural Health Centre, health posts and community platforms, guaranteeing functional OTP and inpatient services, 24/7 delivery where needed and effective referral pathways.
- Mentor health staff, nutrition teams and community health workers through regular field visits, on‑the‑job coaching and supportive supervision.
- Design and deliver competency‑based training for health workers, volunteers and partner staff on IMAM protocols, clinical case management, nutrition screening, IPC and data‑driven decision making.
- Manage supply chain activities including forecasting, procurement planning and stock monitoring for essential medicines, RUTF, therapeutic foods and medical kits.
- Ensure accurate data collection via DHIS2 and CMAM/IMAM databases, lead data analysis, programme reviews and learning cycles.
- Represent the organisation in health and nutrition cluster meetings, technical working groups and coordinate with MoH, UN agencies and local partners.
Required profile
- Proven experience in leading health and nutrition programmes in humanitarian or low‑resource settings.
- Strong knowledge of national and international standards such as IMAM, SPHERE and DG ECHO.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise multidisciplinary teams and provide mentorship.
- Experience in designing and delivering technical training and capacity‑building activities.
- Familiarity with supply‑chain management for nutrition commodities.
- Ability to work closely with ministries, UN agencies and NGOs.

- CMAM/IMAM programme management (OTP, TSFP, Stabilisation Care)
- Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) and Growth Monitoring & Promotion (GMP)
- Family MUAC approach
- Data collection and reporting using DHIS2
