Legal Counsel (AVP) – Zambia

About the role

The Legal Counsel (AVP) will provide proactive, commercially sound legal advice to support the bank’s growth while safeguarding against legal and regulatory risks. This senior role requires deep knowledge of banking products, transactions, and regulatory frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver commercial legal advisory services aligned with the bank’s risk appetite.
• Structure, negotiate and draft complex agreements ensuring enforceability.
• Monitor and interpret banking legislation, Bank of Zambia directives, AML/CFT, data protection and consumer protection laws.
• Provide timely advice on regulatory developments and support regulatory reporting.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal risks across business activities.
• Manage litigation in line with internal policies.
• Collaborate with business units, manage external counsel and contribute to governance frameworks.

Required profile

• Bachelor Honours Degree in Law, Military Science and Security (required).
• Strong understanding of banking products and transactions.
• Demonstrated ability to translate legal strategy into practical business support.
• High ethical standards and sound judgement.
