Legal, Tax Affairs & Insurance Manager

About the role

Zalawi Haulage Limited, a Zambian road haulage company founded in 1974 and part of the MSC Group, is looking for an experienced Legal Manager to join its team. The role supports the Country Manager and other managers with legal advice, contract work, compliance and insurance, and reports to the Southern Africa Regional Legal team in Johannesburg.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the country legal function and act as a link between the country and the regional legal team.
• Support contract negotiations, tender reviews and risk mitigation through insurance, and highlight key contractual risks to managers.
• Ensure compliance with the AGL Group's compliance policies and procedures, including compliance committees and employee awareness.
• Support labour litigation and collective bargaining agreements, and advise on work permits.
• Assist with mergers and acquisitions due diligence and draft sale and purchase and shareholder agreements.
• Manage claims, disputes and litigation, including insurance claims.
• Keep insurance policies renewed and up to date, and brief managers on policy terms.
• Produce monthly and quarterly reports on legal matters, country risks and new legislation.
