Project Quantity Surveyor – Construction

About the role

The Project Quantity Surveyor will lead the financial and contractual administration of construction projects at the site level. Acting as the commercial hub of the site office, the role ensures accurate measurement, timely payment certification, and strict budget control to maximise project value and cash flow.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit monthly valuations and progress claims, ensuring compliance with contractual terms.
• Maintain internal cost control and change request reporting, monitoring “Actual vs. Allowable” budgets using CCS (Candy) and Buildsmart.
• Manage sub‑contractor commercial relationships, including variation orders, early warnings, and liability tracking.
• Produce detailed measurement records and audit trails to satisfy internal leadership and external auditors.
• Develop complex reconciliation spreadsheets and S‑curves for progress tracking.

Required profile

• B.Sc or B.Tech in Quantity Surveying (mandatory).
• 8–10 years of experience in civil engineering construction, with at least 5 years on‑site for a large contractor.
• Experience on multi‑disciplinary infrastructure projects (roads, water, earthworks), preferably funded by AfDB, World Bank or EIB.
• Professional registration with SACQSP is highly desirable.

Required skills

• Expert‑level proficiency in CCS (Candy) and Buildsmart.
• Strong knowledge of Standard Methods of Measurement.
• Working knowledge of FIDIC Red Book and GCC 2015 contracts.
• Advanced Excel skills for building complex reconciliation spreadsheets and S‑curves.
