Senior Engineer – AI/ML & Health Data Systems

About the role

Healthy Learners is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead the design, development, quality assurance, deployment and ongoing management of machine‑learning, health data and digital health application systems. The role blends senior AI/ML engineering with data engineering, health informatics and systems integration to support Zambia’s school health programme.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy and maintain ML models and AI‑enabled systems that support health and programme objectives.
• Establish model evaluation frameworks, QA processes, performance metrics and conduct bias and safety testing.
• Manage model versioning, retraining, documentation, release and rollback procedures.
• Apply privacy, pseudonymization, encryption and access‑control practices to child health data.
• Design and maintain scalable data architectures, pipelines and analytical datasets.
• Coordinate data integration planning and technical liaison with the Ministries of Health and Education, including secure API and file‑exchange implementations.
• Lead testing, user‑acceptance, production releases and incident resolution while mentoring junior staff.
