Senior Training Officer – Roads (Construction)

About the role

The National Council for Construction is looking for a Senior Training Officer to lead the delivery of road construction and building courses. Reporting directly to the Training Manager, you will design curricula, prepare lecture materials, and mentor students to ensure they achieve certification and competency in construction disciplines.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare teaching plans and schemes of work for each assigned course based on the provided syllabus.
• Develop lecture notes, handouts and teaching aids using resources from the centre, internet and publications.
• Deliver lectures and tutor students in construction, road and building subjects using appropriate teaching methods.
• Conduct practical training sessions on construction and road sites.
• Set, administer and mark tests, assignments and examinations; prepare end‑of‑course exams and invigilate them.
• Participate in the Council’s consulting assignments within your area of expertise when requested.
• Handle student complaints, provide counseling and support for learning difficulties.
• Prepare internal progress reports for each student based on assessments and class performance.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Grade 12 School Certificate.
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Building Science or Quantity Surveying.
• Membership of professional bodies such as EIZ, SIZ, ZIA (preferred).
• Certificate in Teaching Methodology.
• Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in construction training or related fields.
• Strong pedagogical, counseling and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to evaluate courses and student performance effectively.
