About the role
The Sorghum Agronomist will play a critical part in developing, managing and securing a sustainable supply of high‑quality sorghum for AB InBev’s brewing business in Zambia. The role combines farmer engagement, agronomic oversight and supply‑chain coordination to ensure sorghum meets quality and volume targets.
Key responsibilities
- Manage farmer contracting, registration and legal compliance, building a network of sorghum producers and cooperatives.
- Implement AB InBev’s sustainability strategy by delivering Good Agricultural Practices training, providing market information via SMS/WhatsApp and supporting farmer access to financing.
- Select appropriate sorghum varieties, coordinate seed, fertilizer and crop‑protection input distribution and monitor their use.
- Oversee land preparation, planting, crop protection, pest and disease management, and harvesting, providing agronomic advice throughout the season.
- Design, supervise and evaluate sorghum research trials, analyze data and recommend new technologies or varieties.
- Plan and execute annual sorghum production programs, coordinating seasonal workers, equipment and logistics to meet delivery targets.
- Coordinate grain aggregation, quality verification, storage, transportation and fair compensation for farmers.
- Maintain accurate production databases, generate regular reports and liaise with government, research institutions and other stakeholders.
