Chemist – Quality Assurance (ISO 17025)

About the role

SGS is seeking a Chemist to join its laboratory team, ensuring that all test reports meet the highest quality standards and comply with ISO/IEC 17025 and internal policies. The role supports the senior chemist and contributes to continuous improvement of the quality management system.

Key responsibilities

• Review test reports for compliance with QA/QC protocols, ISO/IEC 17025 and SGS Code of Integrity.
• Maintain and expand the laboratory quality system to achieve full ISO 17025:2017 compliance.
• Optimize and validate analytical instruments and calibration standards.
• Evaluate data, perform root‑cause analysis for proficiency testing failures, customer complaints and audit findings.
• Monitor quality trends, biases and statistical results, and coordinate improvement actions.
• Manage document control, training, and safety procedures, including MSDS handling.
• Provide supervision, attendance monitoring and training for analysts and sample preparers.
• Act as deputy for the Senior Chemist when required.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in chemistry, engineering science or a related discipline.
• Minimum two years of experience in a laboratory environment.
• At least two years of QA/QC experience within a quality management system based on ISO 17025:2017.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements and laboratory audit processes.
• Proficiency with laboratory information management systems such as SLIMS.
• Competence in Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with analytical instrumentation and calibration procedures.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to interpret analytical methods.
