About the role
The Optimization Engineer will support continuous improvement initiatives within open‑pit mining operations. You will use data analysis to enhance equipment utilization, reduce costs, and improve haulage efficiency while collaborating with mine planning and production teams.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in managing Load & Haul budgets, cost forecasting, and performance tracking.
- Identify operational inefficiencies and develop data‑driven improvement projects.
- Support implementation and monitoring of productivity improvement initiatives across Load & Haul activities.
- Conduct short‑haul evaluations, haul‑route optimisation, and dump‑strategy assessments.
- Provide operational forecasting, productivity modelling, and equipment utilisation analysis.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environment, quality, finance, and HR policies.
Required profile
- Grade 12 Certificate and a degree in Mining, Mineral Science, or a related field.
- Valid Blasting License, First Aid Certificate, and a driver’s licence.
- At least 5 years of experience in open‑pit mining, with 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Proven experience in Load & Haul optimisation and productivity analysis.
Required skills
- Proficiency in Power BI.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- SQL data analysis capabilities.
