Field Technician – Water Management

About the role

First Quantum is seeking a Field Technician to support hydrogeological and hydrological activities across its operations. The role focuses on high‑quality data collection, analysis and digital tools to improve water management and balance.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and capture groundwater levels, pumping and discharge volumes, surface water flows and storage volumes (dams, ponds, sumps).
• Support site‑wide water balance through data validation, reconciliation and identification of inconsistencies or gaps.
• Develop and maintain data systems and tools, including automated spreadsheets, dashboards and basic scripts for processing and reporting.
• Create structured data capture workflows and assist with visualisation of water systems using GIS, schematics and dashboards.
• Supervise contractors for drilling and installations when required.
• Support hydrology and civil‑related activities such as stormwater and drainage monitoring, and pump station and pipeline checks.
• Liaise with technical teams across the operation to ensure data integrity and effective water management.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Water) or Hydrology/Hydrogeology.
• 0–3 years of experience; graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Strong analytical and numerical ability with a talent for identifying patterns and inconsistencies in data.
• Comfortable working with advanced Excel and data‑tool scripting.
• Ability to learn quickly, work independently and challenge assumptions with data.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to spend time in the field.
• Flexibility to work between office (data) and site (operations) environments.
