Legal Officer

About the role

The company is seeking a Legal Officer to support its transport and logistics operations in Zambia. The role involves providing legal advice, drafting and managing contracts, and ensuring compliance with local regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate and manage transport, service, supplier, NDA and employment contracts.
• Ensure compliance with transport, logistics, employment, corporate and commercial laws.
• Advise on employment matters including contracts, disciplinary actions, grievances and terminations.
• Identify legal risks, provide practical solutions and advise senior management.
• Manage claims, disputes, litigation, debt recovery and insurance matters.
• Liaise with external counsel, regulators, insurers and government authorities.
• Update company policies, procedures and governance frameworks.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the transport and logistics sector.
• Handle company secretarial duties, licences, permits and statutory filings.
• Support contract management and ensure obligations are met.
• Conduct legal due diligence on clients, suppliers and partners.
• Provide legal training and guidance to staff.
• Maintain legal records with strict confidentiality.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB); admission as a legal practitioner or advocate preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in commercial, corporate, employment, transport or logistics law.
• Strong knowledge of contract law, labour law, commercial law and regulatory compliance.
