Senior Environmental Officer – EMS (Fixed Term)

About the role

The Lumwana Expansion Project is seeking a Senior Environmental Officer to lead the implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of its Environmental Management System (EMS). Reporting to the Coordinator Environment – LEP, you will ensure compliance with ISO 14001, company standards and local regulations while supporting a zero‑harm culture.

Key responsibilities

• Generate Similar Exposure Groups (SEGs) and design sampling plans.
• Implement, maintain and improve the EMS in line with ISO 14001 and corporate requirements.
• Coordinate environmental audits, inspections and assurance activities, including preparation for internal, external and ISO audits.
• Maintain and review Environmental Obligations and Risk Registers, tracking legal, regulatory and permit requirements.
• Monitor compliance with environmental permits, licences and project commitments, ensuring timely closure of actions.
• Identify and review environmental aspects, impacts, risks and opportunities, applying appropriate controls.
• Report on environmental objectives, targets, KPIs and performance through monthly and periodic reports.
• Manage non‑conformances, corrective actions and improvement opportunities, conducting root‑cause analysis.
• Review contractor EMS performance, including plans, procedures, inspections and audits.
• Develop and maintain environmental procedures, plans, registers, standards and EMS documentation.
• Deliver training, induction and awareness programmes for staff and contractors.
• Maintain accurate environmental records to ensure document control, traceability and audit readiness.

Required profile

• Grade 12 certificate.
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering Management, Natural Resources Management or a related field.
• Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience, preferably in mining.
