Store Manager – Retail Operations & Finance

About the role

The Designate Manager will lead a retail store within a highly competitive FMCG environment, ensuring profitability, operational excellence, and a high‑standard customer experience. This role combines people leadership, financial stewardship, and day‑to‑day store operations to meet set targets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and motivate store staff, fostering a positive work environment and identifying training needs.
• Ensure superior customer service, product availability, and adherence to brand and merchandising standards.
• Oversee store housekeeping, health and safety compliance, and overall store presentation.
• Manage fiscal controls, budgeting, profit‑and‑loss performance, cash flow, and working capital.
• Control risk through shrinkage reduction, statutory compliance, and preventive planning.
• Handle buying activities, supplier relationships, pricing structures, GMROI, stock control, and obsolete inventory management.
• Plan and execute promotional and advertising campaigns, negotiating deals with suppliers.
• Follow and audit operational policies and procedures to maintain consistency.
• Coordinate staff training in partnership with HR, L&D, and compliance teams.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 qualification; tertiary education is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of risk, administration policies and procedures.
• Understanding of health and safety legislative requirements (advantageous).
• Proven ability to manage store profitability, budgeting, and financial controls.
• Experience in retail or FMCG store management preferred.
