Junior Site Safety Officer (3‑month contract)

About the role

The client, a global healthcare and crop‑science innovation company, is looking for a Junior Site Safety Officer on a three‑month contract to support safety management across its operational sites in Zambia. The role involves ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations, conducting inspections and fostering a strong safety culture among staff and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out regular site inspections and audits to verify compliance with Zambian legislation and internal safety policies.
• Monitor and enforce the correct use of personal protective equipment and safe work practices.
• Maintain safety documentation, including risk assessments, incident reports and safety registers.
• Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks and support ongoing training and emergency drills.
• Investigate accidents, near‑misses and unsafe conditions, prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions.
• Stay up‑to‑date with HSE legislation in Zambia and liaise with regulatory bodies during inspections.
• Review contractor safety plans and ensure contractors adhere to the organisation’s safety standards.

Required profile

• Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science or a related field.
• 3‑5 years of experience in site safety, preferably in agriculture, construction or industrial environments.
• Certification in First Aid, Fire Safety and HSE management (e.g., NEBOSH, SAMTRAC).
• Familiarity with Zambian safety regulations and a valid driver’s licence with willingness to travel between sites.
