Commissioning Electrical Technician – Mining Projects

About the role

First Quantum is seeking a Commissioning Electrical Technician to join the Projects – Commissioning team at Kansanshi Mine. You will be responsible for testing, energising and verifying electrical equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation in a challenging mining environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform inspections and testing of LV, MV and HV equipment before and during energisation.
• Carry out electrical switching operations across low, medium and high voltage systems as required.
• Conduct fault‑finding, verification and measurement of electrical parameters on equipment.
• Participate in punch‑list walk‑downs, record defects and complete corrective repairs.
• Complete commissioning check‑sheets promptly and update punch‑lists with any outstanding work.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to optimise resource use and maximise productive work.
• Undertake any additional duties assigned by the commissioning manager or leads.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 3‑5 years of experience in project construction or commissioning.
• Strong understanding of project drawings such as P&IDs, SLDs, schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Knowledge of Zambian electrical safety standards and regulations.
• Ability to work safely with live HV, MV and LV installations and use appropriate electrical PPE.
• Good communication skills, teamwork orientation and a methodical approach.
