Data Manager – Field Data Systems (Mfuwe, Zambia)

About the role

The Data Manager will lead the development, maintenance and coordination of reliable data systems that support CSL and DNPW law‑enforcement and human‑wildlife conflict (HWC) operations in Mfuwe, Zambia. The role ensures that field data are collected, cleaned, verified and stored securely, and that analytical products are delivered to inform operational decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and coordinate data systems for CSL and DNPW operations, with a focus on SMART datasets.
• Collect, transfer, clean, verify and securely store field data; conduct SMART patrol debriefs.
• Review datasets, resolve errors, inconsistencies and missing information.
• Manage SMART mobile devices, GPS units, InReach devices, radios and related equipment; maintain inventories and ensure proper configuration.
• Analyze law‑enforcement and conservation data using Excel, GIS and other tools; produce tables, charts, dashboards, maps and visualisations.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly data summaries, reports and presentations for internal, partner and donor audiences.
• Provide training, guidance and technical support to DNPW officers and CSL field teams on data‑collection platforms.
• Identify opportunities to improve data workflows and recommend practical solutions.

Required profile

• Experience managing field data systems and coordinating data collection in remote environments.
• Ability to work closely with law‑enforcement and conservation personnel to ensure data quality and timely submission.
• Strong attention to detail for data verification, error resolution and secure handling of sensitive information.
