Geologist – RC Drilling & Grade Control

About the role

First Quantum is seeking a Geologist to lead and manage reverse‑circulation (RC) drilling programmes at the Kansanshi copper deposit. The role focuses on gathering, interpreting and reporting geological data to improve understanding of the ore body and support grade‑control activities.

Key responsibilities

• Implement, interpret and report RC drilling activities, ensuring compliance with sampling protocols and QA/QC standards.
• Supervise field assistants, technicians, team leaders and drilling contractors, providing daily and monthly progress reports.
• Coordinate geological chip logging, data collection, and management for RC drilling, and liaise with the database administrator to secure accurate data storage.
• Evaluate drill pattern designs with the Senior Mine Geologist, adjusting plans as geological knowledge evolves.
• Manage the flow of sample data from pit to laboratory, oversee laboratory QA/QC programs, and resolve accuracy issues.
• Verify and validate grade‑control ore mark‑outs in the field, working with shift engineers and plant personnel to meet ore quality and blending targets.
• Monitor ROM and long‑term stockpile inventories, and produce daily and end‑of‑month reports.

Required profile

• Strong commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
• Proven ability to lead large field teams and manage external drilling contractors.
• Experience in coordinating complex geological projects and delivering accurate, timely reports.
