About the role
We are seeking native‑level speakers of Chichewa/Nyanja to join our global pool of linguists. As an independent contractor you will work remotely on audio recordings, producing verbatim transcripts and English translations for a large‑scale multilingual speech‑to‑text project.
Key responsibilities
- Create accurate verbatim transcripts from audio files, including non‑speech elements such as noises and cross‑talk.
- Translate transcribed content into natural, fluent English while preserving meaning, tone and cultural nuance.
- Perform quality review of transcripts or translations, correcting errors and providing feedback on linguistic issues.
- Optionally handle both transcription and translation within the same workflow when required.
Required profile
- Native‑level proficiency in Chichewa or Nyanja.
- Graduate qualification in translation, linguistics, language studies, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience (2‑5 years of full‑time translation work).
- Prior experience with spoken‑language transcription is a strong advantage.
Required skills
- High attention to detail and ability to follow annotation guidelines.
- Strong written English for producing clear translations.
