Network Engineer – Control System Specialist

About the role

The Network Engineer will support the design, implementation, commissioning and maintenance of control system networks in an industrial environment. You will work closely with engineering and operations teams to ensure network reliability, resilience and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct reliability analyses on control system networks and propose improvements.
• Design and implement new network solutions, enhancing the current network’s resilience.
• Investigate data‑network faults using tools such as Profitrace and multiple information sources.
• Coordinate fiber‑optic installation, splicing, and testing (OTDR, light source, meters).
• Install and configure network equipment including Scalance switches, repeaters and OLMs.
• Generate and update network drawings and documentation.
• Execute proactive development measures and test environments, including customer factory acceptance tests.
• Provide formal and informal user training on network systems.
• Support other tasks as delegated by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Excellent communication skills, especially with non‑technical staff.
• Self‑disciplined, motivated and well‑organized.
• Strong troubleshooting ability on Profibus‑DP/PA, Ethernet and fiber‑optic networks.
• Basic understanding of control‑system philosophy in a process plant.

Required skills

• Profibus‑DP and Profibus‑PA protocols.
• Industrial Ethernet.
• Siemens network components (Scalance switches, repeaters, diagnostic repeaters, OLMs, terminating resistor units).
• Proficiency with Profitrace for fault finding.
• Fiber‑optic testing tools (OTDR, light source, meters).
• Microsoft Office and Windows operating systems.
• Knowledge of industrial DCS, PLC, SCADA and HMI systems (advantageous).
