S3 Engineer - Control Systems

About the role

The S3 Engineer – Control Systems supports the S3 Control Systems Coordinator to ensure reliable operation, optimisation, maintenance and technical governance of the S3 Process Plant. The role focuses on Siemens PCS7 DCS, industrial networks and Gearless Mill Drive (GMD) control systems within a high‑availability mining processing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Promote a zero‑harm safety culture, develop SWIs, participate in HIRA/JSA and maintain statutory safety records.
• Install, configure, commission, maintain and optimise Siemens PCS7, S7‑400H, Profinet/Profibus, Scalance and related OT platforms.
• Validate redundancy, manage configuration backups and oversee hardware/software lifecycle to maximise system availability.
• Maintain accurate as‑built documentation, follow change‑management procedures and keep critical spares stocked.
• Conduct proactive fault finding, root‑cause analysis and corrective actions to minimise production losses.
• Provide C&I engineering support to sustain plant stability and performance.
• Support the Electrical Department with GMD control philosophy, excitation systems, cycloconverters and protection schemes.
• Assist with protection coordination, audits, parameter validation and ensure compliance with Zambia Mining Regulations.
• Monitor plant performance via DCS, historian and drive systems, analyse data and implement optimisation measures.

Required profile

• Commitment to safety and ability to develop and review safety work instructions.
• Experience in industrial automation within a high‑availability environment.
• Strong analytical skills for fault diagnosis and performance optimisation.
• Capability to work with cross‑functional teams, including electrical and protection engineers.
