Technical Advisor

About the role

First Quantum is looking for a Technical Advisor to lead predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance on mobile mining trucks. The role ensures equipment reliability, meets mechanical and cost KPIs, and upholds safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform condition monitoring to detect equipment health changes and support a repair‑before‑failure strategy.
• Train, coach and mentor technicians on safe and efficient maintenance practices.
• Audit parts availability, manage upgrades and coordinate alternative part replacements across the truck fleet.
• Assist technicians with planned and unplanned repairs, and manage backlog prioritisation.
• Determine component life‑cycles and advise on major change‑out or repair strategies.
• Measure and manage performance against mobile‑truck KPIs, driving continuous improvement.
• Conduct preventive and routine maintenance, including QA/QC of high‑frequency service tasks.
• Ensure compliance with Safety, Health & Environment policies and maintain a clean work environment.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years hands‑on experience with mining equipment, specifically Liebherr trucks and similar heavy‑mine assets.
• Diploma or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering with proven experience on high‑voltage systems.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to develop safe work procedures or SOPs.
• Strong capability to train, coach and mentor technical staff while being hands‑on.

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of high‑voltage and low‑voltage electrical systems.
• Proficiency with electrical schematics, OEM manuals and root‑cause analysis.
• Installation, commissioning and repair of starter motors, alternators, traction motors and grid blowers.
• Troubleshooting of electrical harnesses and HV cable terminations on mining trucks.
• Computer skills: Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; Power BI is an advantage.
