Biomedical Equipment Specialist – Zambia

About the role

The Biomedical Equipment Specialist will be embedded at the Zambia National Public Health Reference Laboratory (ZNPHRL) to provide technical support for life‑saving humanitarian assistance aligned with U.S. Presidential Executive Order directives. The role focuses on preventing, detecting, and responding to infectious disease threats by ensuring laboratory equipment is well‑maintained, calibrated, and operational.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, refrigerators, autoclaves, and air conditioners.
• Support the installation and relocation of new laboratory equipment.
• Verify equipment accuracy and ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
• Maintain a comprehensive, up‑to‑date inventory and history file for all laboratory equipment.
• Conduct timely corrective maintenance and repairs to minimize downtime.
• Report weekly and monthly to the ZNPHRL Laboratory Manager and the U.S. Department of State Health Coordination Office Senior Public Health Advisor.

Required profile

• Experience working with biomedical or laboratory equipment in a health‑care or public‑health setting.
• Ability to work onsite at ZNPHRL and follow U.S. government health coordination guidelines.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate equipment records.

Required skills

• Preventive maintenance of laboratory devices.
• Repair of centrifuges, refrigerators, autoclaves, air conditioners, and related equipment.
