Chief Mining Engineer

About the role

First Quantum is seeking a Chief Mining Engineer to provide technical leadership and strategic direction for mine planning, engineering and production activities. The role ensures safe, efficient and economically sustainable extraction of ore across our operations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage all engineering aspects of mining operations, including planning, design and execution.
• Optimize mining processes for efficiency and cost‑effectiveness, focusing on Load & Haul strategies and overall operation optimization.
• Oversee selection, maintenance and management of drilling and other mining equipment.
• Conduct regular field inspections to ensure compliance with safety, operational and environmental standards.
• Develop and implement environmental permitting strategies and effective environment management.
• Implement robust QA/QC and analytics processes to monitor and improve performance.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to engineering teams and manage project timelines and resources.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in mining engineering, preferably in large‑scale open‑pit or underground operations.
• Proven expertise in Load & Haul and mining operation optimization.
• In‑depth knowledge of drilling and mining equipment management.
• Strong understanding of environmental permitting and management principles.
• Experience with QA/QC and analytics for mining applications.
