Electronic Technician – Fault Finding & Maintenance on MTU Engines

About the role

We are seeking an Electronic Technician to perform high‑level fault finding, maintenance and repairs on MTU diesel and gas engines (500 kW‑3 300 kW) and associated automation systems across sub‑Saharan Africa. The role involves both independent and team‑based work on customer sites, ensuring safety, accuracy and compliance with MTU standards.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out work on customer sites on engines and electronic/mechanical systems to the highest standard.
• Perform electrical interface tasks between MTU engines and applications such as dump trucks, excavators, locomotives and gensets.
• Wire panels, route harnesses, mount interface modules and body solenoids.
• Analyze and resolve mechanical, electrical or electronic system failures and produce detailed reports.
• Commission engines on site, fine‑tune parameters, conduct start‑up procedures and document results.
• Adhere to MTU standards, ISO 9001, 17001, 18001 and OHS (VAZA005) procedures.
• Maintain a safe working environment, report incidents and near‑misses.
• Prepare and submit Fast Field, Travel and daily progress reports.
• Label and forward warranty and core return parts to the warranty store.
• Assist technical staff, handle special tools and represent the company professionally.

• Harness routing and mounting of interface modules.
• Engine parameter tuning and commissioning procedures.
• Mechanical, electrical and electronic fault diagnosis.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 17001, ISO 18001 standards.
• OHS (VAZA005) compliance.
• Proficiency with Office Standard Software, MTU‑F and DDC DiasysDRS.
