Metallurgist – Lab & Accounting

About the role

First Quantum is looking for a Metallurgist who will combine laboratory analysis with metallurgical accounting to support daily production reporting and concentrate dispatch. The role sits in the metallurgical laboratory and works closely with procurement, commercial and processing teams to ensure accurate mass balances, reagent consumption forecasts and compliance with smelter specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mass‑balance calculations and prepare daily, weekly and monthly production and reconciliation reports.
• Conduct metallurgical test work, analyse results and publish reports.
• Liaise with procurement to secure timely supply of reagents and grinding media.
• Coordinate with commercial to ensure concentrate dispatch meets smelter quality specifications and blending strategies.
• Prepare and publish daily, weekly and monthly production forecasts and reconciliation reports.
• Monitor reagent and grinding media consumption to predict supply requirements.
• Participate in daily meetings with commercial teams to optimise concentrate blending before dispatch.
• Maintain laboratory safety, housekeeping and QA/QC systems, reporting any incidents promptly.
• Maintain a comprehensive database of test‑work and develop new test procedures.
• Provide feedback to processing operations and recommend additional test work to improve plant performance.

Required profile

• Strong attention to safety, accuracy and timeliness in a laboratory environment.
• Ability to prioritise workloads and meet KPI deadlines for sampling, analysis and reporting.
• Proactive in identifying improvement opportunities through plant inspections.
• Effective communication with procurement, commercial and processing teams.
• Capability to support day‑to‑day management activities and coordinate events as needed.
