Metallurgist – Technical Support for Plant Operations

About the role

First Quantum is seeking a Metallurgist to provide technical support for its plant operations. The role focuses on collecting and analysing plant data, implementing solutions, and driving performance against key safety and production KPIs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop daily strategies to optimise plant performance and meet safety, milling rate, throughput, recovery and concentrate grade targets.
• Collect and analyse data from control system historians, online analyzers and sampling programmes.
• Coordinate routine checks on operating parameters with the process operations team.
• Plan and execute plant or laboratory tests aimed at improving safety, cost and performance.
• Perform long‑term analysis and optimisation of flotation operating strategies.
• Report safety incidents promptly and ensure accurate documentation of plant operations and improvement projects.
• Identify improvement opportunities, drive implementation and act as liaison between Process Technical and Geology groups.
• Participate in shutdown activities such as ball‑mill, flotation‑cell, cyclone and sampler inspections.
• Analyse poor performance, determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Assist senior metallurgists with troubleshooting crushing, milling and service issues during back‑shift operations.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of complex metallurgical processes, process improvement and control strategies.
• Analytical mindset with ability to identify bottlenecks and propose testing solutions.
• Experience supervising or training metallurgical engineers and technicians.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear reporting.
