Paediatric and Child Health Nurse (2 positions)

About the role

To provide safe, compassionate and quality nursing care to infants, children and adolescents in accordance with Zambian nursing standards and clinical guidelines. The role includes assessing health needs, administering prescribed medications and treatments, and ensuring patient safety and compliance with HPCZ regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to neonates, infants and children (0‑14 years) following MoH and HPCZ standards.
• Monitor vital signs, administer medications, vaccinations and manage paediatric emergencies.
• Support ward rounds, admissions, discharges and referrals, and maintain accurate nursing and stock records.
• Offer emotional support and education to parents and guardians on nutrition, breastfeeding, immunisation and child growth monitoring.
• Care for preterm and low‑birth‑weight newborns, conduct newborn screening and manage common childhood illnesses and chronic conditions.
• Maintain cold‑chain management for routine immunisations and participate in community outreach.
• Adhere to infection‑prevention protocols, hand hygiene, PPE use and child safeguarding.
• Collaborate with paediatricians, midwives and allied health professionals in multidisciplinary meetings.
• Mentor nursing students, supervise junior staff and contribute to professional development sessions.
• Participate in research, evidence‑based practice and policy development.

Required profile

• Diploma or BSc in Nursing with a focus on Paediatrics.
• Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ) and holding a valid practising licence.
• Minimum two years post‑qualification experience in paediatric/child health wards, NICU or under‑5 clinics.
• Knowledge of Integrated Management of Newborn and Childhood Illness, Emergency Triage Assessment and Treatment and immunisation protocols.
• Computer literacy.
• Qualifications must be certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
