About the role
We are seeking a qualified Pharmacist to lead our pharmacy department, ensuring safe and efficient medication management while supporting clinical teams. The role combines operational oversight, procurement, patient care, and regulatory compliance within a hospital setting.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee daily pharmacy operations, ensuring workflow efficiency and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Manage procurement, storage, dispensing, and control of controlled substances, maintaining accurate records and audit trails.
- Monitor stock levels, expiry dates, and coordinate medication disposal activities.
- Lead corrective actions to reduce medication errors and drive a culture of safety.
- Conduct forecasting and quantification of pharmaceutical and laboratory commodities.
- Source and order drugs from approved suppliers, balancing cost and quality, and perform quality assurance checks on incoming products.
- Maintain patient medication records using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and participate in ward rounds.
- Screen prescriptions for drug interactions and contribute to individualized patient care plans.
- Lead pharmacovigilance activities, train staff on adverse drug reaction reporting, and prepare safety reports.
- Ensure compliance with Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority, ZEMA, HPCZ and support internal and external audits.
Required profile
- Registered pharmacist with a valid license to practice in Zambia.
- Demonstrated experience in hospital pharmacy operations and medication safety.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and quality assurance processes.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
Required skills
- Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
- Knowledge of pharmacovigilance procedures.
