About the role
The Clinton Health Access Initiative is seeking two Provincial Coordinators to lead implementation of the Maternal and Newborn Health Emergency Referral Systems in Zambia’s Copperbelt and Southern provinces. The coordinators will act as the main link between the national ERS team and provincial stakeholders, ensuring timely and coordinated emergency referral activities.
Key responsibilities
- Develop provincial and district work plans and budgets and ensure timely delivery of activities.
- Serve as the principal liaison among the national ERS team, Provincial Health Office, District Health Offices, health facilities, community structures and partners.
- Coordinate inception, planning and review meetings, maintain accurate records and follow‑up trackers.
- Monitor implementation progress, identify bottlenecks, coordinate corrective actions and escalate critical issues.
- Lead assessments of community referral structures, support training for Safe Motherhood Action Groups, CHWs and motorcycle‑ambulance riders.
- Map and verify ambulances, motorcycle ambulances and other referral vehicles, and oversee their deployment, equipping and maintenance.
- Track vehicle functionality, downtime and fuel use, and coordinate maintenance with government teams and vendors.
- Map facility obstetric and newborn care capacity, support development of district referral pathways and provide training and mentorship on referral protocols.
Required profile
- Frequent travel within the assigned province, including remote districts and communities, is required.
- No formal direct reports; the role coordinates implementation across districts, facilities and community structures.
