QHSE Officer – Health, Safety & Environment

About the role

We are looking for a QHSE Officer to support the health, safety and environment programme at our mine site. The role ensures compliance with company policies and Zambian legislation while fostering a proactive safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Support the development and maintenance of the site H&S Management System.
• Assist the HSE Manager/Superintendent on projects and risk‑control implementation.
• Identify hazards with supervisors and managers and put controls in place.
• Conduct workplace inspections to verify compliance with OHS standards.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records of health and safety performance.
• Participate in incident investigations and follow‑up actions.
• Carry out monitoring activities such as noise and environmental monitoring.
• Maintain OHS equipment including first‑aid kits, spill kits and fire extinguishers.
• Attend relevant meetings and perform any other duties assigned by the HSE Manager.

Required profile

• Degree in Environmental Health and Safety or equivalent.
• Minimum two years’ experience in an Occupational Health and Safety role.
• Knowledge of Zambian labour laws and OHS regulations.
• Strong understanding of OHS principles, risk‑assessment methodologies and control strategies.
• Experience conducting audits and developing improvement plans.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build effective relationships at all organisational levels.
• Highly organised, proactive problem‑solver with a willingness to travel between sites.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
